An online petition with 60,000 signatures has called out for the end of baptisms in Romania, following the death of a six-week-old baby.

An autopsy found water in the child's lungs which relates to the baby's heart attack hours after the baptism.

A spokesperson of Romania’s Orthodox Church encouraged the church to modify their practices from submerging the recipients into holy water thrice to sprinkle holy water over them.

Consequently, an influential cleric, Archbishop Teodosie, rejected the reformation as the ritual cannot deviate from how it is prescribed in scripture for years.
