Queensland Green’s MP Michael Berkman is calling for state legislation to be changed to better legally recognise trans and non-binary identities.
Berkman is sponsoring a petition, posted to parliament on Monday, to recognise trans and intersex genders on legal documents.
Currently, Queensland does not recognise non-binary genders on birth certificates and a person is required to undergo gender reassignment surgery before they can legally change their gender.
