The following story discusses sensitive themes, including abortion and sexual health.

The cost of contraception is pushing women in Venezuela into unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions.

As Venezuela enters its eighth year of economic crisis, millions of women are no longer able to afford birth control, forcing many to have unplanned pregnancies pushing them into further economic strain.

The safety of women is also being compromised as many resort to unsafe abortions, which are illegal in Venezuela. No  statement on this issue has been released by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on this issue, leaving the Chavez era policy of supporting but not legislating for abortion reform in place for now.
