Increasing difficulty of securing a lease has been reported because of rocketing rental market demand in Northern New South Wales. The market vacancy rate is close to zero.

A main factor in a successful rental application is reportedly a DINK - double income with no kids - rather than contribution to the community or personal credibilities.

Institute chief executive Tim Mckibbin attributes the difficult situation to city dwellers relocating to regional areas during the pandemic, which has seen Northern Rivers locals pushed out of the market.
