Queensland Treasury modelling has predicted 50,000 Queenslanders will lose their jobs at the end of this month when the JobKeeper wage subsidy ends.

State Deputy Premier Steven Miles said many Queensland businesses are reliant on international tourism and is calling for extended financial support from the government.

The premier said, “The ongoing economic impacts we are feeling here in Queensland, particularly places like Cairns, are a result of those ongoing international border closures”

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said there may be targeted and temporary support initiatives for certain industries once JobKeeper ceases, but details are yet to be released.
