The Biloela community held a dawn vigil this morning to mark three years since the Tamil family were taken by immigration authorities and transported to Christmas Island.

The vigil took place at 5am in the morning, the same time the family were forcibly taken from their residence.

Tamil born parents, Priya and Nades arrived in Australia by boat in fear of ethnic persecution in Sri Lanka.

The couple settled in Biloela with their two Australian born daughters four years before being taken into detention in 2018; the two girls are reportedly the only children held on Christmas Island.

Vigils are to be held across the country throughout the day, including fifteen regional towns and the nations capitals.
