The state of Victoria will hold a formal inquiry into the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal Australians.

The Yoo-rrook Commission, which means ‘truth’ in the Wemba Wemba language, will have the powers of a royal commission and will be modelled around similar inquiries held in post-apartheid South Africa, New Zealand and Canada.

The inquiry will begin later this year and will be the first of its kind in Australia.
