Police in London are facing significant backlash from citizens and politicians alike after heavy-handed tactics were used to quell a peaceful vigil in memory of Sarah Everard who was allegedly murdered by a serving police officer.

Police had denied permission for the vigil which was to be held in Clapham Common where Ms Everard was last seen alive, however, hundreds of people still attended throughout Saturday to pay their respects to Ms Everard.

Ms Everard first went missing on 3 March and a serving officer has since been charged with her murder.
