Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba, Townsville, and Yeppoon have been selected as sites for Energy Queensland's trial of grid-connected battery storage.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczcuk said the move was part of an effort to make sure Queenslanders’ solar energy will be used effectively and sustainably as part of the larger effort to move towards fifty percent renewable energy by 2030.

The announcement has been welcomed by Solar Citizens national director Ellen Roberts, especially after the Australian Energy Market Commission announced a proposal that would see citizens paying for energy they export to the grid.

“As we transition our energy system and clean up our power supply, we need to be encouraging more rooftop solar – not penalising people for putting panels on their roof," Roberts said.
