Business owners in the Northern Territory have expressed concern at the resurgence of business after COVID-19 lockdowns.

Australia’s border closure has meant migrants and travellers have not taken up their usual jobs to fill gaps in work rosters.

Moorish Café owners Gertrude Knight and Marc Wagnon said they have 8 employees working currently, compared to their usual 14, and said they were likewise struggling with the surge in business.

Alex Bruce from Hospitality Northern Territory said a campaign is being planned to encourage those in the Northern Territory to take up a second job.

A spokesperson from the NT Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade said the department had been targeting skilled workers in cities across Australia, as well as providing JobMaker Booster and Job Trainer initiatives to assist small businesses with hiring needs.
