Somalia’s lower house has supported extending President Mohammed Abdulhadi Farmaajo’s term for an extra two years to allow the country to properly prepare for general elections. Somalia has been locked in a months-long political stalemate over the election, which will be the country’s first one-person-one-vote election in decades. The United Nations is warning that after three decades of conflict and amidst regular continued extremist attacks, the country cannot afford for its current instability to continue.
