An Indigenous man in Cessnock Correctional Centre has been pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in his cell yesterday.

This is the 7th Indigenous death in custody since March 2nd, The man's death will be subject to a coronial inquiry.

There have been over 470 Indigenous deaths in custody since the royal commission into deaths in custody concluded 30 years ago.
