Queensland Police are pleading for a change of attitude among drivers following Wide Bay Burnett region records the Queensland’s worst regional road deaths toll this year.

Wide Bay Burnett, which includes the Bunderberg, Fraser Island and Gympie regions, has seen 18 deaths on the roads since the beginning of the year.

District officer Superintendent Michael Sawrey said the toll is 11 higher than it was this time last year.

"I'm pleading with drivers in the Wide Bay and visiting the Wide Bay to be safe," Superintendent Sawrey said.

"We want you to arrive home to your friends and family. We don't want any more fatalities."
