The ethnic rebel Kachin Independence Army in northern Myanmar says it has shot down a Burmese military helicopter as clashes between the two forces continue.

The helicopter was allegedly accompanied by two fighter jets which were shelling nearby villages as part of the military junta’s weeks-long campaign of air strikes in rural parts of the country.

The Kachin Independence Army and several other Burmese ethnic militia are actively supporting protestors and clashing with government forces as the country continues to oppose its return to military rule.
