A large number of Queensland court cases are experiencing months’ long delays as forensics labs struggle under their increasing workload.

 

A police prosecutor working on the Girum Mekonnen murder inquiry says wait times for autopsies are generally up to twelve months, with other evidence on their case remaining months away as well.

 

A twenty eighteen Auditor-General report found while the number of exhibits needing to be tested had risen, the number of lab staff employed to conduct these tests had fallen.
