The ACT has become the first state to recognise organ donation on death certificates.

Families of donors who have donated organs can now apply to have their loved one’s death certificate read, “The deceased gave a gift of life, generously donating organ/tissue,” along with a letter of acknowledgement by ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

ACT Human Rights Minister Tara Cheyne says she is hopeful that the ACT’s decision will become a template for other states to follow.
