A spokesman for Boris Johnson says there is an urgent need for de-escalation of tensions between the Channel Islands and France over fishing rights.
Paris threatened to cut electricity to the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, following an accusation the UK is stalling fishing licenses required by French boats under post-Brexit trade deals.
The spokesman says the threat is disproportionate and that two UK Navy vessels will be sent to the island as a precautionary measure.
