Brisbane river Kittycat ferries are being retrofitted with wet mufflers after 169 noise complaints were made to the council.
Kangaroo point and Newfarm residents made the complaints and the council realised that the ferries did not meet Australian standards.
Active transport committee chairman Ryan Murphy said all five ferries will be fitted by the end of June and the upgrades will have no impact on the timetabled service.
