Activists say a new mine will threaten the river system that supplies Queensland’s second largest dam.

 

Anti- mining action group Lock The Gate says the proposed expansion of the Ensham mine near Emerald could cause nearby land to sink, putting local farmers at risk 

 

Japanese mining group Idemitsu, who own the Ensham mine, say their studies did not predict subsidence to rise to dangerous levels, however former Rio Tinto employee turned Lock The Gate rehabilitation coordinator Rick Humphries says he does not believe the firm can accurately predict subsidence trends
