The Queensland Government has announced it will be removing the turn-left-on-red road rule by June 30.

The road rule trial, in place since 2013, ends due to safety risks to pedestrians and a marginal impact on driving time for motorists.

Minister for Transport, Mark Bailey, said intersections are less safe and they make no apology for a decision that puts the safety of bike riders and pedestrians first.

Brisbane city council is outraged with this decision and has asked Queensland Government to rethink the decision that it claims to be a successful trial.
