Annastacia Palaszczuk defends the slow progress of Queensland's museum plan almost 4 years after the premier promised to raise $60m to secure the old museums future. Initially the historic building was recommended to be sold or leased to a university to which the government rejected in late 2019 as it was questioned whether the venues "huge rambling halls" could be properly utilised for tertiary education.

Cross river rail says that there are plans to connect the historical buildings and the Exhibition Station, but nothing has been concluded.

Ms Palaszczuk stated that the restoration of this building would be an  “important bridge between Queensland’s history and its future”.
