A 3 year old girl has been medically evacuated from Christmas Island to Perth for hospitalisation following a blood infection. The girl’s mother accompanied her daughter while other family members remained detained on the island awaiting news of her condition.
Family spokesperson Angela Fredericks says, “this is another instance of lack of proper medical care for these little Biloela girls.”
Up to 700 healthcare workers have signed a petition outlining their concerns about the impact of detention on developing children, and say that child detainment on Christmas Island is causing families avoidable harm.
