The construction of a new cross-river bridge linking South bank to the Queens Wharf Development area, will force Brisbane to avoid Brisbane’s CBD with toll waivers as the Riverside Expressway is expected to close for an entire weekend.

The temporary closure will allow a major bridge section to be lifted over the roads.

The Riverside Expressway will be off limits to traffic in both directions between Elizabeth and Margaret streets from 10pm on June 18, until 5am on June 21.

The major construction of the roads comes as new data revealed that there has been a 193 per cent increase in morning peak travel times along major roads such as, Roma Street, since January.

Police will direct commuters as alternate traffic routes and plans are being planned in order for vehicles to pass smoothly.
