The federal government has revisited plans to open gas and oil exploration off Victoria’s South-East coast, in a move they say will support Australia’s economic growth.

Federal Resources Minister Keith Pitt said the licence is still under consideration despite Prime Minister Scott Morrison saying in March it would be terminated.

Locals gathered along the Coast of the Twelve Apostles to protest the movement.

Secretary of Port Campbell Professional Fishermen's Association, Marion Gordon, said research shows if there was a spill, it could extend along the south coast, reaching as far as New Zealand.
