Sydney expects COVID-19 cases to grow as the state enters the first week of lockdown.

With more than 30 new locally acquired cases and a growing list of exposure sites, the New South Wales Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, warns case numbers will likely increase as infected individuals start showing symptoms.

Ms Berejiklian says the outbreak of the highly-contagious Delta strain means entire households could become infected quickly, so lockdown was necessary to prevent further spread.
