A Brisbane man living in Bardon has allegedly had the Aborignal flag hoisted outside his home cut down and stolen from his front yard.

Brad, who has first nations ancestry and who had raised the flag outside his residential home two weeks ago said the incident had been really confronting.

Given NAIDOC Week celebrations he said the act of cutting the flag down is assumed to have some kind of racial motivation behind it.

This year's NAIDOC week theme is ‘Heal Country’ calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

The Brisbane community has been overwhelmingly supportive towards Brad and his partner on social media deeming the criminal act as presenting disgusting behaviour in light of these exact themes.

In response to the missing flag Brad says, “We’ll put another up. And we’ll keep putting them up.”
