Public health experts are worried the area north of Rockhampton could be at ongoing risk of a future Dengue fever outbreak.

Research published in the Medical Journal of Australia calls for the official map of Queensland’s dengue-receptive areas to be updated to include the broad geographic area between Townsville and Rockhampton.

Lead author Jacina Walker from the Central Queensland Public Health Unit says Queensland-based health authorities already unofficially recognised that area as a dengue risk, but she and her colleagues were calling on federal bodies to do the same.
