The Australian Council of Social Service has said that the New South Wales’ lockdown support package announced on Tuesday excludes people on the lowest incomes.

It comes after it was found that almost 4 hundred thousand people in Greater Sydney are on income support payments like JobSeeker that are below the poverty line.

ACCC CEO Dr. Cassandra Goldie said that “While they welcome that the increased disaster payments will help many people on low and modest incomes during lockdown, those on the lowest incomes are being left to face destitution and homelessness.”

Goldie stated that the payment packages will fail to deliver the basic housing and living necessities making it harder to keep everyone safe
