Australia’s craft beer industry is on the rise with over six hundred independent breweries having opened in the past decade.

Independent Brewers Association chair Peter Philip says his goal is to have a small brew pub in every Australian town with a population of at least 10,000.

Philip says an effective way to keep costs low is to move away from shop shelves and to promote domestic tourism by using old, abandoned pubs in country towns.

He explained how Australian brewers pay the highest tax in the world with 42 cents to the dollar, yet independent craft brewers employ over half of all workers in Australia’s beer industry despite only supplying 8% of the product.
