Six nights of protests in Iran’s Khuzestan over water shortages have turned deadly, with three civilians and one police officer killed.
Oil-rich Khuzestan has faced water problems for decades and its large Sunni Arab population has long complained of being marginalised in predominantly Shia Iran.
This year has been especially difficult for the province due to extreme temperatures and droughts leading to widespread blackouts and water shortages.
