An indigenous student at USC has been appointed by the State Government as the inaugural First Nations Archive Advisor at the Queensland State Archives.

Butchulla woman Rose Barrowcliffe said it will be a challenge to honour the histories and priorities of Queensland’s diverse First Nations peoples but she is excited to bring more untold recorded indegenous stories to light.

Her research aims to highlight the stories of the traditional custodians of K’gari Fraser Island and it will be presented through a curated exhibition called “Reading between the lines: Uncovering Butchulla history in the K’gari research archive” at the USC Gallery from August 13 to October 30.
