The United States imposed sanctions on two members of the Cuban government over alleged human rights abuses.
This marked the first concrete steps from the Biden administration to put pressure on Cuba over their handling of July’s protests.
Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez called the sanctions unfounded and slanderous, and said that the United States is the one engaging in systematic repression and police brutality.
