Australian drug regulator the Therapeutic Goods Administration approved the Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 15 year-olds.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt confirmed they are now waiting on the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation to give its approval.

Mr Hunt said that if the ATAG approves it, then immunocompromised children and children with underlying medical conditions will have immediate access to the vaccine.

He said that under-40s can expect to receive their first Pfizer jab by early-October.
