Many reports including The Inquiry into Homelessness in Victoria in 2020, show Immigrants and refugees reportedly represent a high majority among the homeless population.

The Centre for Multicultural Youth estimated that young people from refugee backgrounds are six to ten times more likely to be at risk of homelessness than Australian-born young people.

Elizabeth Drozd, chief of Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) remarks there is a hidden problem which is yet to be identified.

However she believes government funding for a pilot program to reach out to the largest migrant communities to ensure those who are living insecurely get help, with a census to accurately measure the homeless population also to help.
