The Grattan Institute has called for a weekly lottery worth tens of millions of dollars and Labor wants to pay every vaccinated Australian three hundred dollars but the Morrison government has called it an "insult to Australians".

But yesterday, COVID-19 Taskforce Commander Lieutenant-General John Frewen said "an incentive is something we will consider."

He said "In the last seven days, we've had 1.2 million doses going into people's arms. Demand is still exceeding supply right now, so the time for incentives, I think, may be later in the year when we're getting into some of the more hesitant sort of group."

Labor leader Anthony Albanese argued this incentive would boost vaccination and inject six billion dollars into the economy to flow on to struggling businesses.
