New global research has found excess screen time and a lack of physical activity is harming the mental health of adolescents.

The study By Asad Khan, from the University of Queensland School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences,  finds that girls experience detrimental health impacts after 2 hours of screen time and boys after 4 hours.

Dr Khan says, "We have also seen that it is linked with depression and anxiety in this particular paediatric population."

He suggests 1 hour of physical activity and no more than 2 hours of screen time can assist with optimal mental wellbeing
