The echoes of Saigon are being felt in Kabul, as thousands of Afghan civilians have rushed to the main airport desperate to escape Taliban rule. Eight people have died during the ongoing chaos at the airport, which included two unidentified armed men by U.S soldiers.

Hundreds of civilians have been scattered along the runway desperate to board aircrafts, with some hanging from ramps hindering evacuation efforts.

Inside the terminals, shops were looted adding to the sense of panic.

U.S President Joe Biden calls the situation “gut wrenching” and says the U.S would never repeat “the mistakes of the past” by fighting in conflicts not in America’s interests.
