CW: Sexual Assault in this next story

A survey conducted by the West Australian Mineworkers Alliance has found nearly one-in-four women in WA’s mining industry have experienced sexual assault while at work.

Unions are calling for the establishment of an independent body to investigate claims of sexual abuse and harassment at West Australian mine sites, which is reported to include offers of career advancement for sexual favours as well as verbal sexual harassment.

Industry group Australian Mines and Metals association (AMMA) on Monday said more needed to be done to stamp out workplace sexual harassment within the resources and energy sector.
