Gamers are reporting increased “hate raids” with barrages of racist, sexist, antisemitic and homophobic abuse, which has been making life increasingly unpleasant for minority users on Twitch.
Raven, a Black 31-year-old who identifies as gender non-binary, started a Twitter hashtag, #TwitchDoBetter to fight back racial slurs and messages referring to the Ku Klux Klan.
The hashtag has garnered many complaints over the past month, largely from female, non-white and LGBTQI+ players.
Streamers have proposed various ways in which Twitch could better identify perpetrators and keep them off the site, including requiring two-factor authentication.
