Queensland’s Deputy Premier said he understands the frustration over his government’s acceptance of a charter flight of Sydney-based NRL families while residents are unable to return from hotspot states.

The concession came after a second day of criticism levelled at the move as the state government announced an initial 50 hotel rooms for first-in or priority applicants.

In response to reporters outside Parliament on Wednesday Steven Miles said

“I understand the frustration of the public, I understand how it would feel for people in NSW who want to come home to Queensland. We want to get them home too.”

“This wasn’t an active decision made the NRL had access to their existing COVID-safe plan, which they used.”
