Conservationists are reporting government overestimations of koalas in Australia, a population already in decline.

Australian Koala Foundation’s chief executive, Deborah Tabart says numbers have plummeted to 50,000, 10 times less than what the government is reporting.

WWF estimated over 60,000 koalas were impacted by the bushfires in late 2019, however WWF chief executive Dermot O’Gorman says the species was in decline in Queensland long before.
