The United States has appointed its first transgender bishop.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church welcomed Reverend Dr Megan Rohrer who will oversee up to 200 congregations in California and Nevada.
The initiation service was held in the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco on Saturday where Reverend Dr Rohrer committed to serve a six year term as bishop.
Reverend Dr Rohrer says, “During all the difficulties we have encountered through the pandemic, it is more important than ever to celebrate joy, hope and love everywhere we find it.”
