Marine biologists at the University of New South Wales have developed a technique to help identify which species of soft coral are most vulnerable to bleaching.
In figuring out which species are most vulnerable, researchers can then develop methods of protecting coral against the bleaching effects of climate change.
PhD Candidate Rosie Steinberg, who is responsible for co-development of the technique, says it is a massive breakthrough for the limited soft coral research field.
