A Sunshine Coast farm-animal rescue group is pleading for people to volunteer to rehome chickens after 82 hens were rescued from death.

Happily Heifer After co-founder Michelle Dranfield says the hens were rescued after a farmer offered them to the charity when they could not produce eggs.

Mrs Dranfield said the decision to offer the animals to Happily Heifer After meant they were not abandoned or left to deteriorate like many others the charity has received in the past.
