First Nations leaders from two remote islands in the Torres Strait are taking the Federal Government to court to prevent the destruction of their communities by climate change.

In this landmark action, the plaintiffs will argue the Federal Government has a legal responsibility to ensure Torres Strait Islander Peoples are not harmed by the climate crisis.

Isabelle Reinecke from the Grata Fund says the case is the first of its kind in Australia and could force the government to take action.
