Suggestions have been made to use the historic School of Arts on Brisbane’s Ann Street as a headquarters for the new 2032 Olympics organising committee.

The building, which was built between 1865 and 1866, served as one of the city’s earliest art schools, technical colleges, and as a library

The Brisbane City Council has allocated $9 million over the past three years for restoration work, and the lord mayor Adrian Schrinner has this week confirmed it was also applying for federal money to install lifts and make the building wheelchair-friendly.

Australian Institute of Architects Queensland president Michael Lavery believes Brisbane’s 2032 Games could give the building a new focus as “the central offices for one of the major Olympics organising bodies”.
