Shocking abattoir footage showing the killing of cattle has sparked debate about the ethical treatment of Australian cattle processed in Indonesia.

Footage obtained by the Asian arm of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals shows steer still conscious while having their throats cut, with concerns that stun guns were improperly used and checks that the animals were fully unconscious before the slaughter process were not followed.

Animal Welfare expert and chief scientist and strategy officer at the RSPCA Biddy Jones says the manner of slaughter should be outlawed, with Ms Jones saying quote “I don’t think there is an argument for continuing to allow unstunned slaughter of Australian cattle in Indonesia”.
