An inquiry into the New South Wales child protection system has shown the New South Wales Government is failing to keep first nations children with their family.

An independent review by Budget estimates reveals First Nations children in NSW are 11 times more likely to be in out-of-home care than non-Indigenous children.

The report shows there are 6,829 First Nations children in out-of-home care as of June 30, 2021.

Organisations are calling on the Government to work with Aboriginal communities to develop a shared plan for reforms to uphold Aboriginal children’s rights to family and culture.
