First Nations communities are asking for more resources to be put forward for investigations into missing Indigenous children. 

Families elated by the news of missing child Cleo Smith being found safe are asking for help finding their children amidst the mammoth effort to find the missing child. 

With 20 percent of missing children in Western Australia being Indigenous, families say they aren’t met with the same help when they approach authorities. 

The family of Charlie Boy Mullaley who was tortured for 15 hours and killed by his mother’s former partner, went to police and were met with little to no help and say it could’ve saved the 10 month old. 

A large majority of missing children are from out-of-home care with more than a third First Nations, activist and self-described survivor of the foster system Vanessa Turnbull Roberts says the “reports aren’t being taken seriously” and “our young kids are being criminalised than they are provided with proper care or support”.
