A mother who has been locked outside the Queensland border has had to exchange her kids over the top of the border barrier.

Young New South Wales mum Jess Abble had to visit the border barrier in Tweed Heads yesterday to carry out an exchange to get her kids back, after they had been spending time with their grandparents in Queensland.

Mrs Abble says her job doesn't allow her to cross the border, prompting the uncomfortable exchange.

It comes as hundreds of people gathered at the Queensland-NSW border and in Brisbane yesterday to protest against vaccine mandates.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk dismissed the protesters' demands, urging Queenslanders not to listen to their misinformation.
